You know the phrase, life happens. Well, it REALLY happened to me. “
Back in 2009, after spending three months home with my new baby girl, I dropped her off at a daycare down the street from my corporate job and cried all the way to work.
Sitting in my car, wiping tears, I determined that I was going to find a way to be home with her. On that day, I wrote out a plan to make my dream happen.
But I never got a chance to completely follow my plan.
You see, an incident with one of her daycare providers prompted me to turn in my resignation, cash out my 401k and come home one year earlier than I had planned.
Thankfully, my husband was SO supportive and we made it work.
We downsized our home, paid off our cars, budgeted like crazy, and I found work to do from home.
We were making it–even when we added a little baby boy to the family a few years later and had to cut costs even more. I began homeschooling my little ones and we were humming along happily.
And then it happened.
Unexpectedly in 2015, my husband felt sick after a trip we took out of town, and after two days in the ER, he passed away suddenly.
My world stopped that day. I lived in shock for the next year or so. I went through the motions of living because I had two, scared little children looking to me for comfort, guidance and answers.
My only prayer was that God would just provide enough to allow me to continue staying home with my children.
I didn’t want them to have to “lose” their only other parent by returning to work and leaving them confused and grieving at school–an environment they had not been exposed to before.
As if that wasn’t enough, my son was soon diagnosed with high functioning autism and ADHD. From my own battles with Graves disease and then subsequent hypothyrodism, I knew I wanted to find natural options for treating his conditions.
Through much research, we’ve been able to manage his symptoms (and mine) naturally–through diet, lifestyle changes, and natural remedies.
It has been a tough journey, but God has been answering my prayers and I’m still at home with my children. It’s a day by day walk with God, but we are thriving.
